My Experience with Reiki

Kristin Reed, Reiki Master Teacher
At my Park Slope studio, I provide a peaceful and welcoming space where clients can relax, reconnect, and receive individualized care. It’s my intention to create a nurturing environment that supports healing on every level—physical, emotional, and spiritual.

Whether you’re seeking relief, balance, or personal growth, Reiki offers a gentle yet powerful path toward well-being. Reiki can never do harm because it is basically channeling LOVE in your direction. Should you decide to learn to practice Reiki, it is a very simple process, and you can start practicing after a 2-day weekend class, although practice and experience will make you a better practitioner.
International Center for Reiki Training Logo
I have been practicing and teaching Reiki in the Usui/Tibetan lineage for 20 years. Reiki has been a transformative force in my life, and I’m passionate about sharing its healing powers with others.

My Reiki Master was William Lee Rand of The International Center for Reiki Training (ICRT), where I am a Professional Member. I am also a member of The International Association of Reiki Professionals (IARP). Through years of practice and continuing education, I remain committed to offering Reiki with integrity, compassion, and a deep respect for its roots.

Japanese Training

In addition to my training in the Usui/Tibetan tradition, I was honored to study directly with Hyakuten Inamoto, a respected Reiki Master from Japan, and achieved Master certification in the Komyo Kai Reiki lineage. This blend of Eastern and Western teachings allows me to offer a unique, holistic approach to Reiki practice, balancing tradition with accessibility.

Whether you are new to Reiki or looking to deepen your journey, I offer classes and treatments designed to support relaxation, wellness, and personal growth in a welcoming, peaceful space.

Crystal Healing Work

Crystal Healing Connection
My journey as a crystal healer has been shaped through immersive workshops and personal mentorships with renowned teachers such as Laurelle Shanti Gaia, Mika Nelson, and Robert Simmons. Each of these experiences deepened my understanding of the subtle energies of crystals and their profound role in facilitating healing, clarity, and spiritual alignment.

I’ve woven shamanic wisdom into my healing practice—an integration inspired by time spent learning from autonomous Mayan women in the highlands of Guatemala and indigenous healers in the Amazon rain forest of Peru. Through this fusion of crystal healing, Reiki, and shamanic insight, I offer a holistic and intuitive approach to energy work—one that honors both modern vibrational techniques and the wisdom of ancient lineages.

My Life as an Artist

Long before I was aware that I was a healer, I had a lifelong identity as an artist. I have an MFA in Painting and maintain a daily studio practice with Chashama Space to Create at the Brooklyn Army Terminal. Reiki and healing work have greatly affected my art.

Volunteering:

I believe my strength as a practitioner and teacher came first through volunteering in many different programs. Working with family and friends is very different than working on people you don’t know.

World Cares September Space

The first volunteer position I held was with World Cares Centers at The September Space Community Resilience Center (SSCRC) located in midtown Manhattan and serving as the crucible for WCC as the centerpiece of services to individuals, groups and communities affected by 9/11. From November 2001 to December 2007, WCC’s September Space Community Resiliency Centers served over 45,000 individuals. This was a program developed to treat people who had been traumatized in New York City during the 9/11 attack. The free treatments ranged from Swedish Massage, Jo-Rei, Feldenkrais, and Cranial Sacral to Reiki and other modalities. As a Spanish speaker I also participated in support groups for Hispanic workers traumatized as cleanup workers, firefighters and police. Toward the end of the program, many of these people had serious related illnesses. Unfortunately the funding was cut just as these illnesses became prevalent. Working at September Space was a powerful experience for me. It was the first time I worked on strangers and became experienced with treating traumatized people.

SPARK

At September Space I met Dave Gorcznski, who started a volunteer Reiki organization called SPARK (Spirited Action, Release and Kindness, Inc.) For a few years I worked with SPARK doing clinics and training in a Chinese Community Center in Chinatown and in the Brooklyn Chinatown in Sunset Park. We worked in The Good Shepherd Community Center in Park Slope, Brooklyn, in hospitals for caregivers and in parks around NYC. SPARK unfortunately no longer exists.

Working with Mayan Women

Ceremony Quiche 2012
In 2009 I started working with a group called Healer2Healer for several years, making trips to the highlands of Guatemala to work with autonomous indigenous Mayan women. These women seek to reclaim their heritage as healers lost during the Conquest and in 36 years of civil war and genocide. They relate to acupuncture because their ancestors used quills, much in the same way that Traditional Chinese Medicine uses needles. They relate to Reiki similarly to how the ancient Maya used energy from their hands to heal. The Mayan women exchanged their knowledge of healing plants and sacred ceremony based on the Mayan calendar and its system of glyphs. We traded our knowledge of acupuncture, Reiki, and the ability to organize clinics for their people. During this time of visiting regularly I trained dozens of men, women, and children to practice Reiki and a cohort of five women to the Master/Teacher level of Reiki. This enables them to train others in their community at all levels of Reiki. They learned ear acupuncture from us and many needle points, especially for midwifery, as well as cupping and moxibustion. They were quick learners and soon were organizing their own clinics in our absence, combining their knowledge of plants, massage, and ceremony with acupuncture and Reiki.

Working in Amazon The Rain Forest

I worked with Healer2Healer in the Amazon Rainforest of Peru, where we taught the same healing skills we had shared in Guatemala. Our work took place at a jungle-based healing center called The Paititi Institute. We set up clinics in local schools and community centers, serving indigenous communities with limited access to medical care. Each day, our clinics grew as word of our presence spread—sometimes through drumming, with canoes full of people arriving via the river to seek healing. I taught Reiki to some of the volunteers living at the center so they could help support the clinics. In return, we were offered teachings about the medicinal plants of the rainforest and participated in healing ceremonies led by indigenous shamans.

Relationship with Spirit

Through years of training, volunteering, and direct experience, I’ve come to understand the vital importance of cultivating a personal relationship with the world of spirit. While my teachers have generously shared tools, wisdom, and guidance, the deepest lessons have come from walking the path myself—learning to listen, to trust, and to step aside so that true healing can flow. I don’t take credit for the healing that occurs in my sessions. What I’ve learned is that the most powerful work happens when we move our personality and ego out of the way and become a clear channel for spirit.

In my classes, I can attune you to the energy, teach you techniques, and provide a certificate—but becoming a healer is on you, something you grow into through practice, presence, and a sincere desire to serve. If your heart is in the right place and your intention is clear, healing is not only possible—it’s inevitable. Spirit meets us where we are.
